Global warming is the greatest threat facing mankind. Its climate change consequences are already affecting every region of the world and the problems created are set to get worse, year on year, as temperatures continue to rise. The increase in the planet’s temperature is caused by increasing levels of Greenhouse Gases (GHGs) in the atmosphere which are the product of the burning of fossil fuels such as coal and oil. GHGs like carbon dioxide and methane trap the sun’s heat in the atmosphere and prevent it from being radiated back out into space with the result that the world’s average temperature inexorably climbs upwards.
